Further Information
The site we now know as Tropicana Atlantic City was originally a small estate called the Ambassador Hotel. Opened in 1919 and operated until the ‘70s, the Ambassador has a storied history. It was a favorite haunt of gangsters, and even the likes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini, who purportedly conducted a seance there in 1922.
The site was eventually purchased by Ramada and nearly completed reconstructed, opening as Tropicana in 1981. It underwent a further change in 1988 when an indoor amusement park was added and the site rebranded as “TropWorld.”

GLP owns a total of 44 casino properties, while Eldorado operates 23 properties across the country. That includes four other Tropicana properties, but notably not the original Tropicana located on the Las Vegas Strip, which is operated by Penn National Gaming.
